Multisensory Art
Rothko Room (2023)
A sono-visual-olfactory installation. A sonic, color and olfactory atmosphere containing a contrasting
sonic, color and olfactory micro-atmosphere, a kind of sensory Mamushkas.
To experience the inner atmosphere and its mixing with the outer one, please place your head inside the hanging drum.
Here I work with two atmospheres of sounds and smells, in addition to colors, one inside the other in 3D space. They are designed based on crossmodal correspondences, that is, the associations that most people tend to make between stimuli in different sensory modalities. In the inner space, inside the drum, a sweet smell is combined with consonant and soft music and a rose color (both usually associated to sweet taste), while in the exterior space a bitter smell is combined with low-pitched and dissonant music and a brown color, usually associated with bitter taste.
